“Imaginative and unexpected. I was really curious to see how the little girl and father would handle themselves, was cheering them on along the way. Highly recommend it!” Beverly, Houston, TX
“A sensitive, emotional portrait of father and child told in beautifully vivid prose. I found myself rereading sentences to get to all the layers – a truly synesthetic experience. The central relationship moves between affable and bittersweet as Brian and Chloe navigate society’s expectations, family relations, and the art world while trying to deal with a devastating loss. The insights into the artistic process and exhibitions were interesting, especially seeing how the expectations of the jaded, protective father traversed with the freshness of the daughter. The story is unusual and involving. It is one of those rare treats you will find yourself unable to put down.” Emese Felvégi, Houston, TX
“What I most enjoyed about the book was the story – I thought it was a delightful, heart warming & unusual story and I was eager to get to the end to see how it ended. Lovely ending – I did not want for more.” Nicky G., Houston, TX

Brad Tatum’s exquisitly written book! The story is about a father “letting” his daughter heal after his wife and her mother died of breast cancer. Surprisingly this story is not depressing..but enchanting, imaginative and miraculous. Awesome writer!!!
Well this was the most interesting book I have read in a long time. I don’t know that I would have seeked it out by its back cover summary, as it seemed like a book about cancer. To my amazement the book is not about dying, but it is about living. The book opens with the Mom of a very talented nine- year old having just died. It is the uncharastic mourning of the Husband (and father of the nine-year old) and the daughter and how they sift through numbness of loss and find a new direction to their lives that leaves the reader feeling hopeful, enlightened, truthful, and more alive than before. it is ironic and funny and smart. It is a book that gives the reader the same satisfaction one gets on a warm summer night staring at the vast sky and its beautiful stars. Life and Art and Love and Loss is always so much bigger than we are. Bravo to Mr. Tatum! Highly reccomend this book!! It will stick with you long after you read it.
Very well written, mesmerizing, intriguing, sad yet enlightens the curiosity and passion for life. New perspective on life for sure. This mind boggling book will stay with for months to come. Kudos my friend in one word “brilliant” Highly recommended.
I didn’t know what to expect when I first saw this book, but after the first chapter I was hooked. This is a brilliant story of a husband/father and daughter not only coping with death but also with life. This book takes us on their journey and has you laughing and crying and as I read the final line of the book I turned the page and hoped that there was more. The ending was fitting but I did not want it to end and I hope there is a sequel..
So wonderfully orginal! There were so many touching moments in the book. Many times, I laughed out loud and other times I shed some tears. It left me wanting more and that’s always a great sign! I’ve recommeneded it to many friends and have passed along my copy to one. A marvelous book, Bradford, and I look forward to the next! Thanks for sharing your talent.
After I began reading the book, I could not put it down. When I read the last sentence on the last page, I found myself wanting to read more. I want to experience the “Mommy Machine”, too.
